KUCHING
19 FEBRUARY 2025
Sarawak Energy has extended support to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to aid ongoing flood relief efforts across Sarawak, assisting communities affected by the widespread floods in late January. Heavy rainfall over the Lunar New Year period caused severe flooding across the state, displacing thousands of families and leaving many in urgent need of aid.
At a handover ceremony at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on 19 February, The Honourable Dato Haji Ibrahim Haji Baki, Chairman of Sarawak Energy, presented a symbolic contribution to The Honourable Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Chairman of SDMC. Also present were the Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, The Honourable Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi; Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication II (Utility), The Honourable Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Junaidi; as well as Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice President for Corporate Services, Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan.
Recently, Sarawak Energy also provided assistance to flood-affected communities through other relief initiatives, extending aid to 209 families from Sebuyau. The contribution was handed over to Sebuyau District Officer Ayuradiman Bujang at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak’s office on 10 February. The presentation was attended by The Honourable Dato Sri Haji Julaihi, who is also the Assemblyman for Sebuyau.
In addition, Sarawak Energy recently worked with local authorities in Miri and Bintulu from 5 to 6 February to distribute essentials to flood-affected households, helping families meet their immediate needs.
Sarawak Energy remains committed to supporting communities during these challenging times and will continue working closely with SDMC and relevant agencies to assist in the ongoing flood relief efforts.
