Sarawak Energy Hosts 'Sungkei' With Stakeholders

In the spirit of Ramadan, Sarawak Energy hosted a 'Sungkei with Stakeholders 2025' iftar event on 17 March, fostering close working relationships with over 300 of its key stakeholders including from government agencies, local authorities and media publications.
Speaking at the event, The Honourable Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure in rural areas, enhancing capacity to meet current and future needs.
“The Ministry, alongside Sarawak Energy, is committed to fully electrifying Sarawak, with focus on extending power to the most rural households to stimulate economic development. This included the introduction of the updated 'Sarawak Electricity Masterplan (2025 – 2030)' to ensure consistent 24-hour power supply and implementing Additional Late Applicant Fund (ALAF) Projects to reduce financial strain on new rural homeowners,” said Julaihi in his speech.
Sarawak Energy’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili reaffirmed the company’s dedication to powering communities and advancing Sarawak’s renewable energy transition.
"At Sarawak Energy, we believe that meaningful progress is driven by strong partnerships. The strides that we have made in our operations and business would not have been possible without the support of our stakeholders. We hope to continue working closely together, as we always have, to deliver for the people and communities of Sarawak, driving sustainable growth and prosperity by meeting the region’s need for reliable and renewable energy and ensuring a sustainable future for all," said Sharbini in his welcoming remarks.
Sharbini also reiterated Sarawak Energy’s commitment to increasing renewable energy capacity, supporting Sarawak’s development goals with plans to generate 10GW by 2030 and 15GW by 2035, with at least 60% of the power mix from renewable energy sources.
To enhance energy reliability and access across Sarawak, Sharbini highlighted major ongoing projects, including new energy generation developments, as well as grid expansion efforts to strengthen connectivity between urban and rural areas. Digital innovations are also being introduced to improve efficiency and modernise operations in line with Sarawak Energy’s long-term sustainability goals.
As part of Sarawak Energy’s commitment to driving meaningful conversations on sustainability, Sharbini briefed attendees on the upcoming fourth edition of Sarawak Energy’s flagship event, the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 4.0), which will take place on 3 and 4 September 2025.
"SAREF is a key platform that brings global and regional sustainability leaders together to exchange ideas and strategies on climate action and energy transition, driving discussions for a more sustainable future for Southeast Asia,” he said.
The 'Sungkei with Stakeholders 2025' event underscored Sarawak Energy’s dedication to driving sustainable development through strong collaborations. By leveraging collective expertise and resources, such partnerships are crucial in driving impactful initiatives that benefit Sarawak’s communities.
