Non-profit organisation, Lighthouse of Hope (Sarawak) Berhad (LOHSB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sarawak Energy to collaborate on the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) hubs and the implementation of STEM-related programmes at selected schools across the region.

Sarawak Energy was represented by its Senior Vice President for Corporate Services, Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan while LOHSB was represented by its Board Member, Dato Ir. Janang Bungsu at the signing ceremony held at SMK Tabuan Jaya recently.

The MoU signing was witnessed by Sarawak Energy General Manager for Sustainability, Mohamad Irwan Aman and LOHSB Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Lee Chee San.

"This collaboration aligns with Sarawak Energy’s commitment to one of its community investment focus areas—education and young people—with the goal of building a strong foundation in STEM education for Sarawak’s youth. These new resources would be able to cultivate widespread interest in STEM fields, particularly in rural areas, which is especially important as the workforce becomes increasingly digital,” said Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan.

Among the selected schools to benefit from the two-year partnership are SMK Long Lama, SMK Lubok Antu, and SMK Bakun, which will receive enhanced access to STEM subjects through the STEM Hubs. In addition to setting up STEM Hubs, other activities include a STEM Roadshow, STEM Exploration, and STEM Workshops in partnership with the selected schools.

LOHSB, a non-profit organisation serving students, youths and local communities, will be providing creative and innovative teaching resources for teachers as well as promoting and enhancing students’ interest in STEM. This will be done in collaboration with the Sarawak State Education Department, District Education Offices and Parent-Teacher Associations of the respective schools.

"By equipping students with the tools and knowledge to succeed in STEM fields, our collaboration will empower students and teachers with innovative STEM resources, driving curiosity and hands-on learning. We look forward to seeing the positive impact on local communities,” said Dato Ir. Janang Bungsu.

The collaboration further reinforces Sarawak Energy’s ongoing efforts to foster a diverse pool of STEM talent to drive a sustainable and innovative future for the region.
