Sarawak Energy Receives Global Certification For Procurement Excellence
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
3 DECEMBER 2024
Sarawak Energy has become the first organisation in Sarawak and the second in Malaysia to receive the Procurement Excellence Programme Standard Certification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).
A globally recognised honour granted to organisations that meet the international procurement standard following a comprehensive and independent assessment by CIPS UK, the certification was awarded in a ceremony held at The Kia Oval in London on 19 November 2024.
This accreditation recognises Sarawak Energy’s commitment to adhering to international procurement standards. The certification programme assesses procurement practices across five key dimensions: Leadership and Organisation; Strategy and Policy; People; Process and Systems; and Performance Management.
The award was presented by Jonathan Morgan, Director for UK, Europe & Americas Markets at CIPS, to Haji Yusri Safri, Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice President for Contract & Procurement (C&P). Other Sarawak Energy representatives in attendance were Madinah Abang, General Manager for C&P Governance; Raden Chekra Muda Raden Alwie, Senior Manager for Procurement Management & Governance; and Azri Harith Abdullah, Principal Consultant for C&P. Also present at the ceremony representing CIPS were Alan Martin, Head of Procurement Excellence; Peter Richardson, Business Development Manager for Procurement Global Learning Solutions and Advisory; and CIPS Fellow Edward Ang Hock Heng.
Sarawak Energy began the certification process in August 2023, benchmarking its procurement practices against CIPS standards, which are widely regarded as the global benchmark for procurement excellence. This recognition places Sarawak Energy among an exclusive group of 500 organisations worldwide to have attained the certification.
Established in 1932 and awarded a Royal Charter in 1992, CIPS is the world’s largest professional body dedicated to procurement and supply. With a broad membership base in over 150 countries and offices in regions such as Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Europe and the USA, CIPS is recognised as a leader in global procurement standards.
This recognition highlights Sarawak Energy's efforts to enhance its procurement standards and align with global benchmarks. As Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer, Sarawak Energy continues to strengthen its capabilities to support sustainable growth and operational excellence on an international level.
