More Sarawak Energy Customers To Receive Smart Meters

More Sarawak Energy customers will experience the benefits brought by smart meters across Sarawak. Sarawak Energy's operations and retail arm, Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO) aims to install 180,000 smart meters in Kuching by 2026, and an additional 200,000 smart meters in Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu by 2029 as part of its drive to enhance customer service excellence.
The installation of smart meters to replace old meters is free and incur no additional costs for existing customers. To date, more than 80,000 smart meters have been installed throughout Sarawak in its main urban centres.
Smart meters transmit meter readings to Sarawak Energy electronically, eliminating the need for manual readings. Customers with smart meters can self-monitor and manage their electricity consumption. These advanced metering solutions will also facilitate improved accuracy and timely billing, faster outage detection and restoration, and enhanced power quality monitoring.
It is important to note that any arrears bills issued to customers are solely based on meter abnormalities detected during the replacement. Evidence of such anomalies will be managed according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and explained to customers for their record.
Customers are encouraged to schedule appointments for meter replacements to ensure they are present during installation. This proactive approach facilitates direct communication, addresses any concerns, and ensures a smooth transition to the smart metering system.
