International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Sarawak Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in areas of mutual interest, particularly in strengthening the talent pipeline, build student capability, and drive important research for the renewable and sustainable energy sector.

This MoU also includes provision of internship placements for IIUM students within Sarawak Energy and further strengthens the existing collaboration via Sarawak Energy’s Campus Ambassador Programme.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faris Ismail, Deputy Rector of Academic and

Internationalisation, IIUM and Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili, Group Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Energy, witnessed by George Chapman, Senior Vice President for Legal and Compliance, Sarawak Energy and Prof. Dr. Farid Sufian Shuaib, IIUM’s Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws.

"This partnership will enhance our research capabilities and provide opportunities for our students and faculty across relevant disciplines such as law and engineering to engage with industry experts," said Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faris Ismail, Deputy Rector of IIUM.

"We are committed to supporting the development of a skilled workforce, specifically in relations to the energy sector and climate change. This MoU serves as another step in our journey towards developing a comprehensive, open, and collaborative ecosystem of nurturing young talents to be part of the firsthand experience in renewable and sustainable practises within our business and operations," said Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili, Group CEO of Sarawak Energy.

Amongst IIUM representatives were Associate Professor Maizatun Mustafa, Associate Professor Dr. Wan Mohd Zulhafiz Wan Zahari, Br. Mir Azrul Shaharudin and Dr. Sodiq Omoola. The MOU signing marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between IIUM and Sarawak Energy, paving the way for future joint initiatives.
