MIRI

31 MARCH 2023

Sarawak Energy today organised a breaking of fast event, “Berambeh Sungkei Bersama Sarawak Energy” at Masjid Darul Ehsan in conjunction with the month of Ramadan to contribute to those in need and foster closer relations to the Miri community.

Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer, Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili hosted the event with Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, The Honourable Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Junaidi as guest-of-honour.

In his speech, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman thanked Sarawak Energy for inviting him and congratulated them on the recent achievements, including the ongoing efforts to further strengthen the reliability of power supply throughout Sarawak.

He said, “As we are aware, the Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunication Sarawak is responsible for the policies and regulatory oversight of the provision of water, electricity, gas and telecommunications services in Sarawak. We are committed to providing reliable, quality and affordable utility services for the people of Sarawak.”

The Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunication Sarawak, in collaboration with its implementing agency, Sarawak Energy, aspires to achieve full coverage for Sarawak by 2025, accelerating the state's economic transformation through hydro-industrialisation for SCORE and sharing of renewable energy resources with neighbouring countries, cultivating a sustainable energy future for the people of Sarawak.

Residents in Sarawak enjoy the extended Sarawak Government electricity discounts under the “Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang” (BKSS) scheme on top of the lowest average tariffs in Malaysia.

Sharbini said, “As we come together to observe the holy month of Ramadan, I am reminded of the importance of unity, generosity, and compassion and they are especially meaningful as we reflect on the challenges and opportunities of the past year.”

“To strengthen and modernise Sarawak's power system, Sarawak Energy has launched several major projects to meet the increasing demand for supply in Sarawak such as the Northern Grid Extension Project, a project to connect Limbang and Lawas to the current State Grid for supply reliability.

“Targeted to be completed in 2024, the project will create provisions and opportunities for Sarawak to export its electricity to Sabah, Brunei, and North Kalimantan in the future,” he added.

Sharbini expressed his sincere gratitude to the Miri community for their continuous support and trust in Sarawak Energy, saying “We would like to thank all our stakeholders for your support, and I would like to assure you that Sarawak Energy remains committed in its efforts to provide a reliable and modern power system our people deserve.”

Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman and Datu Sharbini later handed out contributions to local suraus, charitable organisations and schools.
