Sarawak Energy hosted a buka puasa event for its Kuching-based stakeholders and community today in observance of the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan. Themed “Berambeh Sungkei Bersama Sarawak Energy” at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), the event was hosted by Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer, Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili and his wife, Datin Hajah Norasmah Kassim, following a similar event in Miri recently.

About 500 guests from different backgrounds attended the event, which also saw the handover of contributions to representatives of local mosques, suraus and charitable organisations including Maahad Tahfiz.

The event is part of the Group’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by engaging with the communities it serves, as well as to promote interaction between these communities and Sarawak Energy's leadership and employees, by fostering positive relationships and goodwill.

In his welcoming remarks, Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the community representatives and stakeholders in attendance for their continued trust and support. He also reiterated Sarawak Energy's commitment to serving the communities to the best of its ability in line with its broader roles and responsibilities, with a vision to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for Sarawak by meeting the region’s need for reliable and renewable energy.

“As Sarawak’s primary energy utility and Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer, we are fully committed to providing reliable, affordable and renewable electricity supply to the state and its people – powering socio-economic development in line with our shared vision of becoming a high-income and developed society by 2030,” he said.

Sarawak Energy is committed to providing 24-hour reliable and affordable power supply across Sarawak with the most competitive electricity tariffs in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. During festive seasons, the Group also intensifies efforts to ensure all operational systems have contingency measures in place to enable effective restoration of power in the event of an outage.

To prioritize the interests of the wider community and environment in which it operates, the Group is committed to supporting its social investment focus areas, including education and young people, environmental management and conservation, culture and heritage, and community development and entrepreneurship.

The event included representatives from the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability and various Sarawak Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the Premier of Sarawak. Other guests included Pertubuhan Kebajikan Pekerja Islam, Rumah Sri Kenangan, Rumah Amal Nur Murni, Masjid Darul Hasanah Kampung Selang Ulu, Masjid Darul Salam Kampung Terombol, Masjid Darul Salihin Telaga Air, Surau Darul Taqwa Kampung Selang Laut, Surau Darul Salihin Sibu Laut, Surau Khairul Amal Demak, Surau Darul Ibadah Jalan Mendu and members of the media.
