Sarawak Energy held a Retirees Appreciation Dinner at Riverside Majestic Hotel Puteri Wing in Kuching on 13 November 2023 to honour the contributions and dedication of its retirees, gathering around 700 attendees including close to 400 retirees.

With a workforce exceeding 5,500, Sarawak Energy is Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer and Sarawak’s largest employer of professional Sarawak talent. The company plays a key role in advancing renewable energy in Southeast Asia and the retirees, with decades of service, have been instrumental in the organisation’s success.

The appreciation event builds on the inaugural Retirees Appreciation Dinner 2019 where Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili, had highlighted the company's commitment to ongoing engagement between the group's leadership and its retirees. This reflects Sarawak Energy's commitment to recognising and celebrating the milestones achieved by its workforce.

In his event speech, Sharbini paid tribute to the retirees and other past employees for their dedication in steering Sarawak Energy through transformative phases since the company’s inception in 1921, successfully overcoming many challenges. He highlighted its origins as an Electrical Section under the Brooke Administration's Public Works Department, reaching a significant milestone in 2021 with the celebration of Sarawak Energy’s centenary which marked 100 years of powering Sarawak.

He said, “All of our achievements would not have been possible without your commitment and sharing of knowledge throughout the years, and we appreciate your role in being part of developing Sarawak Energy’s current multidisciplinary workforce of 5,500, mainly comprising Sarawakians. Our professional talent is one that is highly competent, with much credit to you as dedicated employees who have been inspirational role models to the new generation of the organisation’s workforce.”

To recognise and leverage on the wealth of experience, knowledge and skills accumulated by retirees during their dedicated service, Sarawak Energy is committed to ensuring that its new generation of employees can benefit from these invaluable resources.

In this regard, Sharbini announced the launch of a new platform called the ‘Retirees of Sarawak Energy’ (ROSE). Facilitated through a digital database, ROSE aims to establish connections and serve as an information hub for Sarawak Energy’s extensive network of over 900 retirees. Through ROSE, the company seeks to keep everyone informed about upcoming activities, latest announcements, and updates to medical benefits.

The appreciation event not only provided a platform to express gratitude to retiring employees but also highlighted Sarawak Energy’s ongoing commitment to its workforce, ensuring a seamless transition for those embarking on a new chapter in their lives. Through this event, Sarawak Energy reiterates its belief in the enduring impact of its people and the vital role they play in sustaining the company’s legacy of excellence.
