16 Schools Join Sarawak Energy’s Environmental Awareness Programme In Limbang

Sarawak Energy, in collaboration with the Limbang District Education Office (Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah or PPD), successfully organised an environmental awareness programme for primary schools in Limbang. The programme featured a recycling competition and an educational talk on electricity generation, environmental concerns and electrical safety by Sarawak Energy team members.

Held at SJK (C) Yuk Hin in Limbang, the programme’s goal was to promote environmental awareness among the younger generation while integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) elements. Additionally, the event also aimed to enhance students' reading, presentation, and communication skills in English, along with raising awareness about environmental issues and initiatives.

The event was graced by The Honourable Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Ismail, Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development (Food Industry) FICORD. Joining him were Marconi Madai, Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice President for Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) and Tuan Haji Mat Zinan Bin Haji Wahit, PPD Limbang Officer. In his speech, Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, emphasised the significance of creating a sustainable environment for future generations.

Speaking at the event, Marconi highlighted the importance of education and early exposure to environmental awareness. He stressed that the value of collaboration through a unified effort from all stakeholders; the government, industry players, academics, and the public; is essential to promote and facilitate sustainable living.

In the Recycle Competition, Sekolah Kebangsaan Limbang emerged as the champion. Sekolah Kebangsaan Limpaki secured the second position while Sekolah Kebangsaan St Edmund came in third place. The competition saw the participation of 48 students from 16 schools in the Limbang district, as they showcased their innovative recycling projects, impressing the audience with their presentation skills.

Also present at the event from Sarawak Energy were Ir. Robin Tigai, General Manager for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE); Ts Julaidi Rasidi, Senior Manager for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); Ts. Mahmood Long, Senior Manager for Environment, colleagues from HSSE and Project Delivery; as well as representatives from the Limbang District Education Office.
