KUCHING
2 MARCH 2022
Eleven vendors with outstanding performances in 2021 were recognised for excellence in contract delivery at the Sarawak Energy Vendor Awards 2021 ceremony held in Kuching today.
The awards recipients were evaluated for their performance in health, security, safety & environmental excellence (HSSE), quality of works, delivery of services and integrity in the categories of ‘Best Works’; ‘Best Supplier’; ‘Best Service Provider’, ‘Best Local Consultant’, ‘Best International Consultant’, as well as ‘Best Bumiputera Vendor’ and ‘Promising Bumiputera Vendor’.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg officiated at the event.
He was joined by Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Haji Julaihi Narawi; Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility), Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Junaidi; and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Haji Hazland bin Abang Hipni.
Sarawak Energy was represented by Chairman, Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi; Bumiputera Participation Board Committee Chairman and Board member, Dato Haji Idris Buang; Group CEO, Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili and the senior management team.
In his speech, Abdul Hamed said that through the awards, Sarawak Energy aimed to recognise outstanding local and international vendors while strengthening vendor performance management mechanisms and fostering closer ties with the vendors.
“Periodical vendor evaluations are vital to measure performance and help transformation and evolution. Sarawak Energy Vendor Award and Appraisal (SEVAA) programme also helps us to identify top performers as well as vendors who require assistance in closing identified gaps. We have seen improved ratings for vendors under the SEVAA programme this year where almost 80% are in the A and B rating - a 9% increase compared to the previous year. This shows the effectiveness of this programme in improving the performance of our vendors,” he said.
He added, “We also provide opportunities and competency building initiatives for Sarawak’s business community to maximise participation in our projects and services. This includes our vendor financing programme as well as collaborating with training providers, industries as well as the relevant bodies to develop local vendors and workers to enhance project delivery performance.”
He continued, “Digitalisation is key to business resilience in today’s business environment. We rolled out Sarawak Energy e-Procurement (SEPRO) as our digital procurement platform in 2019 and this meant we were able to continue operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting this year, our vendor performance evaluation process under SEVAA programme has also been integrated into SEPRO. All performance evaluations are now available within one single online platform – this is a more transparent and efficient vendor performance evaluation process.”
At the event, the recipients for ‘Best Works’ award categories were Ody Enterprise and Mega Electrical Engineering Services.
Shorefield Sdn Bhd received ‘Best Bumiputera Vendor’ award while Faizal Engineering (FBI) Trading Limbang and Geoimpact Resources received ‘Promising Bumiputera Vendor’ award.
For ‘Best Service Provider’ awards, the recipients were Melbourne Business School in Australia, Crest Business Solution Sdn Bhd and NIOSH Certification Sdn Bhd.
Pine Contract & Supplies received the ‘Best Supplier’ award, while Jurutera Azan Bersekutu received the ‘Best Local Consultant’ award. For ‘Best International Consultant’, the award was received by Vriens & Partners Pte Ltd.
Sarawak Energy Vendor Awards is an annual event that is part of the Group’s procurement transformation initiatives in line with its focus on strengthening the management of its vendors. The awards also aims to recognise Bumiputera performance and encourage Bumiputera business participation.
