Sarawak Energy paid a courtesy call on the Premier of Sarawak, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Kuching today to brief on the corporation's industrial scale microalgae production facility.

Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer, Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili led the delegation which includes Sarawak Energy General Manager for Research & Development, Dr Ng Sing Muk, joined by Sarawak Biodiversity Centre Chief Executive Officer, Dr Yeo Tiong Chia; Chitose Group Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tomohiro Fujita and Chitose Group Executive Officer, Dr Takanori Hoshino.

The Premier was briefed on the progress of the industrial scale microalgae production facility at Sejingkat Power Corporation project, a collaboration between Sarawak Energy, Chitose Group, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre and ENEOS, and funded by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development.

The objectives of the project are to achieve greener and cleaner coal power generation while simultaneously creating downstream opportunities across various sectors through reduction of CO2 emissions from coal power plants via carbon capture and utilisation to further decarbonise Sarawak’s power system, leveraging biomass to create high value products, which will serve as new commodities for additional income and conducting techno-economic analysis and life cycle analysis of industrial scale microalgae production which will provide important information for future development and expansion of microalgae production in tropical climates like Sarawak’s.
