KUCHING
28 MAY 2022

In preparation for the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebrations, Sarawak Energy’s contingency plans and teams are ready for quick deployment to keep the lights on or facilitate quick restoration of electricity during the festive season.

Sufficient manpower has been assigned to technical teams who will be on 24-hour standby to ensure electricity supply reliability. Should any supply disruptions occur, the standby teams will be deployed immediately for safe and swift restoration. Gensets have also been allocated and prepared accordingly for this purpose.

Customers can also play a role in keeping families and communities safe through these electrical safety and saving tips for an enjoyable festive celebration with loved ones.

For residences where celebrations and gatherings will take place:

  • Use energy-efficient electrical appliances and ensure that they are safe to use.
  • Check all electrical equipment regularly and keep them in good condition.
  • Do not overload electrical sockets with multiple pin adapters and extension cables to prevent potential fire due to electrical circuit overload. Ensure all electrical sockets are in good condition, and
  • Untangle all extension wire coils when using to avoid them from overheating.

For those who will be travelling, the following tips may be observed:

  • Switch off and unplug electrical sockets for all unused electrical appliances,
  • Ensure all electrical sockets are in good condition. Do not use excessive multiple pin adaptors and extension cables to prevent electrical circuit overload, and
  • Use a timer switch should you need the lights on for security reasons while away.

Sarawak Energy also cautions its customers to refrain from illegally extending their internal wiring circuits, especially during festive seasons. Such illegal extensions might overload Sarawak Energy’s electrical system, leading to supply interruptions which will inconvenience those living in the affected areas and creating unsafe conditions and raising the risk of fire.
