Sarawak Energy Staff & Company Contribute to Sarawak Disaster Fund
KUCHING
3 SEPTEMBER 2021
Sarawak Energy staff pooled together RM43,238.53 in individual contributions to the Sarawak Disaster Fund. The company has matched the amount to round the staff contribution to a total of RM100,000 and also contributed its centenary celebration budget of RM1million to the Fund for a total of RM1,100,000.00.
A mock cheque was handed over to Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to symbolise the contribution from Sarawak Energy staff and the company at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
Sarawak Energy’s Chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi and Group Chief Executive Officer Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili represented the company at the event. Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice President for Corporate Services Hajah Siti Aisah Adenan and Senior Vice President for Health, Safety, Security & Environment Marconi Madai were also present.
Datu Haji Sharbini said “This is a heartfelt gesture from our staff as well as our company. Everyone is going through challenging times and now is not the time to celebrate. These funds would be better served by helping to alleviate the distress of those most in need.”
The company earlier launched a voluntary employee contribution campaign for the fund via Sarawak Pay.
Sharbini explained that as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to cause hardship, the company decided not to hold centenary celebrations this year out of respect for all those affected. The funds had been planned for celebrations across its main centres in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu.
To complement ongoing initiatives to help the rakyat such as utility discounts, the State Government had launched Tabung Bencana Sarawak or the Sarawak Disaster Fund aims to ease the suffering of those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
