Sarawak Energy has recognised fifteen contractors for their compliance with the corporation’s Life-Saving Rules and proactiveness in building safety compliance at the workplace during the Contractors Transformation Programme award dinner.

The award is part of the corporation’s ongoing effort to instil a greater safety culture under the Contractor Transformation Programme (CTP).

The fifteen contractors are the second batch of contractors recognised under the CTP initiative and are from the generation and distribution arms of Sarawak Energy.

Group Chief Executive Officer Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili, in congratulating the contractors, reiterated the importance of a strong safety culture in moving towards Health, Safety & Environmental excellence.

“We are working with our contractors and stakeholders to ensure that no one gets hurt while working for us in our projects, operations and businesses by mandating the life-saving rules as a part of our “Zero Harm to People” target,” Sharbini said, in his speech at the CTP award presentation dinner. His speech was read by SESCO’s Chief Executive Officer Lau Kim Swee, who was representing the GCEO at the event.

The focus of the programme is for the development of strategic partnerships towards promoting self-regulation and continuous improvement as well as enhancing professionalism and discipline among the contractors.

Introduced last year, the programme encourages contractors to build a safety culture among their workers to prevent accidents at the workplace. The programme also includes promoting health, safety and environment (HSE) best practices.

Last year, Sarawak Energy recognised 11 contractors for successfully complying with every (which) safety aspect in their work processes. They were also for their initiatives in environmental protection.

The CTP is a platform to benchmark the contractors’ commitment to and participation in HSE excellence initiatives, in line with the National Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan 2016-2020 “Transformation toward Preventive Safety.
