KUALA LUMPUR
11 NOVEMBER 2019

Sarawak Energy’s ongoing efforts to develop talent and create a high performance culture was recognised with the prestigious HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Award on Friday night.

Group Chief Executive Officer Datu Haji Sharbini Suhaili attended the event on behalf of Sarawak Energy. He was accompanied by Dr Mak Met, Senior Vice President for Human Resources (HR) and Ting Ching Zung, Executive Vice President for Strategy and Corporate Development.

The award was presented by HR Asia, Asia’s largest circulating publication for senior HR professionals. HR Asia selects corporations with high levels of employee engagement and excellent workplace culture using the Total Engagement Assessment Model (T.E.A.M) for this award.

T.E.A.M is an employee input survey that covers emotional engagement, intention and motivation, advocacy and behaviour.

This year HR Asia added elements of collective consciousness, workplace sentiment and team dynamics.

Sarawak Energy was the only recipient from Sarawak out of the 49 Malaysian companies recognised. This award is the energy developer’s second external recognition in 2019 for its HR initiatives.

Other recipients that evening included AirAsia Group, Coca-Cola Bottlers Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings, McDonalds Malaysia, Telekom Malaysia and Tenaga Nasional.

During his acceptance speech for the award, Sharbini said, “This is testament to the great work being done. We truly believe that people are our greatest asset and invest significantly in their development to ensure that our 5,000 employees can reach their full potential.”

Explaining that Sarawak Energy’s three-pronged talent management strategy begins with acquiring talent and then developing them effectively for deployment into roles that maximise their potential, Sharbini also said that the company ensured the wellbeing and satisfaction of the people through continuous improvement of the company’s policies, practices and work environment.

Sarawak Energy is a renewable hydropower developer and vertically integrated power utility who serves close to 690,000 customers and a population of nearly 3 million across Sarawak.
