Sarawak Energy Celebrates Gawai Raya
KUCHING, 17 JUNE 2019, MONDAY: In celebrating diversity and cultural confluence of its 5,000 strong staff, Sarawak Energy held a Majlis Sambutan Gawai Raya for Kuching-based staff and stakeholders today at Menara Sarawak Energy.
The event was graced by Chief Minister of Sarawak Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg accompanied by Yang Amat Berbahagia Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang.
The event was hosted by Sarawak Energy Chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi along with Group Chief Executive Officer Datu Sharbini Suhaili, and this year’s Kitua Gawea Sipol Ambun. Also present were Sarawak Energy’s Board members, senior management team and staff who were entertained by Dayak cultural performances, festive Raya tunes and enjoyed local Sarawak delicacies.
Sipol, who is also Sarawak Energy General Manager for Land and Wayleave, said in his welcoming address, “Events such as these are in line with Sarawak Energy's corporate culture to promote inclusiveness and respect. The population of our workforce reflects the population of Sarawak, representing the major groups in the state, and today we celebrate our diversity and unity.”
In his speech, Hamed shared Sarawak Energy’s key highlights and successes in the past year for the organisation and thanked all the staff for their role in delivering the vision to provide energy to the state.
“One of our major initiatives this year is to accelerate rural electrification in Sarawak. We are working with the Ministry of Utilities to provide reliable, renewable and affordable electricity to our most remote communities. Our state domestic coverage is at 97% now and our aim is to power up 99% of Sarawak by 2020 towards full electrification by 2025,” said Hamed.
“We are on an ongoing journey of improvement, but we are pleased that we have recorded some major achievements. As a government owned corporation in service to the people of Sarawak, Sarawak Energy will continue to pursue opportunities for growth and support the government’s agenda for a greater Sarawak and a sustainable future,” he added.
Sarawak Energy is a power utility and energy developer which generates electricity supply to power up communities throughout Sarawak and serves as the catalyst of the State’s development agenda.-ENDS
