G-Builders Team 9 Champion in Sarawak Energy Cup 2019
KUCHING: G-Builders Team 9 emerged champion of the Sarawak Energy Cup 2019 after beating 15 other teams vying for the main title in the badminton tournament held from 5 to 8 September 2019.
G-Builders Team 9 defeated SEB Baleh in the finals to win the Sarawak Energy Cup tournament trophy, RM8,000.00 and medals. Runner up SEB Baleh received RM4,000.00 and medals while joint second runners up were Club Ace and Pebadas Kenyalang Airways received RM2,000.00 per team.
G-Builders Team 6 took home the Sarawak Energy Plate and RM2,000.00, while runners up Dewan Badminton Stapok received RM1,000.00. Joint third prize winners- CK Badminton Club and G-Builders Team 8, each received RM500.00 for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Energy Shield was won by Pebadas GST and the team received RM500.00 while runners up Excellence took home RM300.00.
Sarawak Energy’s Executive Vice President for Strategy and Corporate Development, also the Organizing Chairman of Sarawak Energy Cup, Ting Ching Zung presented the prizes to all the winners. Also present was Vice President for Rural Electrification Dr Chen Shiun.
The annual tournament was opened to all Sarawakians and the primary objective is to promote badminton game in the Sarawak and to implant healthy lifestyle as well as to foster friendship and community building to be united through sports.
The tournament was played in team event format and comprising of categories- Men’s Doubles Open, Men’s Doubles (Invitation), Men’s Doubles Combination (Invitation + Open), Veteran Men’s Doubles and Novice Men’s Doubles. The tournament offered cash prizes amounting to more than RM20,000.00 for all the categories.
In conjunction with Sarawak Energy Cup, a badminton clinic was also organised with former national shuttlers Zakry Latif, Razif Latif, Arif Latif and Mohd Razlan was held on 8 September. Aimed at nurturing interest and developing potential young talent, the badminton clinic had attracted 150 students.
