Sarawak Energy and GE-Sinohydro Consortium Contribute To School’s Infrastructure

KUCHING, 20 JULY 2018, FRIDAY: Sarawak Energy and GE-Sinohydro Consortium, its contractor for the Tanjung Kidurong Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant Project in Bintulu recently had a symbolic hand-over ceremony for their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kem Batu 18 in Bintulu.

The CSR initiative at the semi-boarding school located 30 kilometres from Bintulu along the Bakun-Tubau road was completed in June this year, and included building a 170-meter covered walkway, a new access bridge to the school field, new railings for the school toilet block and 200 chairs for the assembly hall.

Chief Executive Officer for SEB Power, Sarawak Energy’s power generation arm, James Ung said, “Sarawak Energy acknowledges the importance of a conducive learning environment for education and we understand the value of education as the pertinent building block to the success of a community, which is why Education and Young People makes up one of the pillars of our CSR efforts. We hope that these improvements to the school’s infrastructure will enrich learning experiences.”

“The 170-meter long covered walkway linking two blocks of classrooms, for example, means that the students and teachers no longer have to be exposed to the sun or the rain when going to classes,” he added.

He continued, “We work together with our contractors to carry out CSR projects as we want to encourage them to be socially responsible organisation.

Ung handed over a certificate symbolising the CSR initiative to the school’s headmaster, Paul anak Jarum at the event. Also present were representatives from GE-Sinohydro Consortium and Sarawak Energy, as well as teachers and students of the school.

The 842MW Tanjung Kidurong Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant project is set to be one of the most efficient combined cycle power plants in its class in the world when construction is completed, and will contribute to the generation capacity of the State.
