Calling on entries for the Hydropower Development and Social Investment Media Awards 2014

KUCHING, 16th OCTOBER, 2014, THURSDAY: Media practitioners are reminded that the last day to submit their entries for the Hydropower Development and Social Investment Media Awards 2014 is on Nov 15 this year.

The awards along with cash prizes will be presented to the winners of the various categories at a glittering Media Night to be held on Dec 5.

The media awards is jointly organised by Journalists Association of Kuching Division (KDJA) and Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA), Sarawak branch in partnership with Sarawak Energy.

The media awards are divided into print media category for works published in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese languages, broadcast media category for works in Bahasa Malaysia only and photography category.
The first prize winners in the English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese categories shall receive a cash prize of RM2,000 each, second prize winners shall receive RM1,500 each and third prize winners shall receive RM1,000 each. There shall be a consolation prize of RM300 to be awarded to one winner for each of the English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese categories.

The first prize winner in the broadcast media category shall receive a cash prize of RM2,000, second prize winner shall receive a cash prize of RM1,500 and third prize winner shall receive a cash prize of RM1,000.
In the event that no entry meets the required standard a merit award of RM800 in cash shall be awarded in broadcast media category.

The first prize winner in the photography category shall receive a cash prize of RM1,500, second prize winner shall receive a cash prize of RM1,000 and third prize winner shall receive a cash prize of RM800.
There shall be five consolation prizes of RM250 each to be awarded in the photography category.

A spokesman for the organising committee in a statement today reminded that all entries must be based on hydropower development and social investment undertaken by or related to Sarawak Energy Berhad.
He said that journalists, press photographers and TV producers who are working full time with the newspapers, news agencies, Information Department and television stations and are residing permanently or are based in Sarawak are invited to submit entries.
He added that all participants must be Malaysians and free-lancers and stringers/part-timers are not eligible to participate.

He said entries for the English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese languages categories must be in the form of one original and two copies.

Entries for the broadcast media category shall be in Bahasa Malaysia only. All entries must be downloaded into three separate compact discs.

There shall be one photography category only, but the title of each entry shall be either in English or Bahasa Malaysia. Each entry must be in the size of 8R and must be in three prints.

Only works published in daily newspapers, released by news agencies, Information Department or telecast in television stations between Jan 1, 2014 and Nov 15, 2014 are eligible to be submitted as entries.

All works must be original, and that translated or copied materials shall not be eligible and shall be disqualified as entries. A participant in each of the three categories of the print media can submit a maximum of three entries.
A participant in the broadcast category can submit a maximum of three entries and all three entries shall be downloaded into one compact disc. A participant in the photography category can submit a maximum of five entries.

All entries from the print media and photography categories must be accompanied by the official entry forms, containing the names of the participants, the titles of the entries, endorsement by the Chief Editors/News Editors/Bureau Chiefs/Section Heads and must be chopped with the employers' official stamps.

Entries from the broadcast media must be accompanied by the official entry forms, containing the names of the broadcast journalists and the cameraman or cameramen, endorsement by the station heads and must be chopped with the employers' official stamps.

Entries which fail to meet the requirements or insufficient details shall be disqualified from participating in the media awards 2014. Entry forms and the media awards regulations can be downloaded through Sarawak Energy’s corporate website www.sarawakenergy.com.my and on KDJA’s facebook page.

All entries, either hand-delivered or sent through registered mails, must reach the secretariat on or before 4pm, Nov 15, 2014 addressed to; Hydropower Development and Social Investment Media Awards 2014,
