Sarawak Energy Holds Bumiputera Contractors Outreach
KUCHING, 25TH FEBRUARY 2017, SATURDAY: Sarawak Energy concluded a two and a half day workshop aimed at building awareness among Bumiputera contractors on its tender processes and requirements to encourage their participation in the company’s project works.
Around 250 participants sat through the briefing at Menara Sarawak Energy which was declared open by Sharbini Suhaili, Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer on Wednesday.
The briefing was aimed at making clear Sarawak Energy’s tender processes and guide Bumiputera contractors on how to fulfil tender requirements in regard to general, technical and commercial works.
In his speech, Sharbini said,” By reaching out and sharing this through direct interaction, we hope to expand the pool of qualified Bumiputera contractors that can participate in our projects. This briefing is intended for contractors to build up their competencies in a focused manner by making the requirements and standards clear so they can take up projects.”
Sharbini emphasised the importance of meeting safety standards in all projects to ensure an injury free work environment for all. He also reminded everyone that integrity was a deeply held core value for the corporation, and any violation of Sarawak Energy’s ethics standards should be reported.
In 2014, Sarawak Energy established a division to oversee Bumiputera participation and in 2015 a special committee was set up at Board level to provide steering and leadership. The Bumiputera Participation Board is represented by stakeholders from Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment (MIETI), Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak, Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry and private organisations.
The workshop also included updates on the tender requirements on the distribution system projects and the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES).
In conjunction with the event, an exhibition of supporting agencies such as the Electrical Inspectorate Unit of the Ministry of Public Utilities, Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment (MIETI), Lembaga Pembangunan Industri Pembinaan Malaysia (CIDB) and Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU) among others was also held in the building’s atrium.
