Sarawak Energy Appreciates Public Vigilance

KUCHING, 20TH JUNE 2017, TUESDAY: Syarikat SESCO Berhad, Sarawak Energy’s operations and retail arm, appreciates the level of alertness shown by its customers when it comes to the verification of its personnel.

This is important in safeguarding against the unscrupulous who may exploit opportunities to scam customers by claiming to be SESCO staff.

Lau Kim Swee  刘金瑞,  SESCO’s Chief Executive Officer said; “We appreciate the public being vigilant when it comes to ascertaining whether the individuals who approach them on SESCO related matters are really our staff.

“On our part we have also issued precautionary statements on this given our past encounters with individuals attempting to impersonate SESCO staff so it is good to note that our customers are doing their part to be proactive in this,” he said.

Referring to a recent case of a customer’s encounter with SESCO’s operations team in Miri, Lau clarified that the individuals who came by the customer’s house were indeed SESCO’s staff with valid identification passes.

He said the team who came in Sarawak Energy vehicles were in the area checking on voltage quality at Piasau Jaya during peak load hour to ensure that the quality of supply to that area was stable and reliable especially with the approaching festivities. This is part of a precautionary check following the splitting of a feeder line last Saturday.

“With Hari Raya Aidilfitri just around the corner, our operations teams are doubling their efforts to check on the stability of supply in some areas requiring them to enquire if homeowners have experienced any unusual dips in voltage and to perform voltage tests on meters.

“We do apologise over the confusion but at the same time, we are appreciative of the growing vigilance among our customers,” said Lau.

SESCO would like to remind the public that all their personnel are issued with staff identification cards (ID) to introduce themselves to customers at site. They are however not authorised to receive money directly from customers at site. Payments can only be accepted at the appropriate SESCO office or counters.
