Power Shutdown At Ulu Bayong, Sarikei Due To Flooding
KUCHING, 1ST MARCH, 2017, WEDNESDAY: As a safety precaution, Sarawak Energy subsidiary Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO) has temporarily shut down seven substations at Ulu Bayong in Sarikei due to rising floodwater.
The substations were shutdown at 730 am, affecting around 200 customers, when floodwater levels rose to 3 meters following incessant heavy rainfall, cutting off access to facilities.
Working closely with BOMBA, SESCO’s technical team in Sarikei is on alert and monitoring the flood situation. Supply to the affected area will only be restored once floodwater recedes and it is deemed safe to do so.
In the interest of public safety, SESCO will switch off supply to affected substations without notice in a flood situation or if water reaches danger levels. Power supply will be restored as soon as it is safe to do so.
SESCO would like to remind members of the public to be cautious in regards to electrical safety with the recent weather conditions of persistent rainfall throughout the state.
Sarawak Energy has prepared an electrical safety message which is available on its corporate website at www.sarawakenergy.com.my. You can also follow us on twitter for updates via @1sarawakenergy.
