Limbang Power Station Recognised For Proactive Performance In Safety And Health

KUCHING, 27th AUGUST 2017, SUNDAY: Sarawak Energy’s Limbang Power Station was awarded the Gold Class II under the Utilities Sector category of the 35th Occupational Safety and Health Awards by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The diesel-powered station, with an installed capacity of 25MW, was recognised for its commendable management and practices in occupational safety and health.

Present at the award ceremony with the team from Limbang Power Station were Sharbini Suhaili, Sarawak Energy’s Group Chief Executive Officer, James Ung (翁新光), Executive Vice President for SEB Power Sdn Bhd and Su Mou Leh (苏保历), General Manager for Gas.

Commenting on the award, Sharbini said; “This recognition means a lot to Sarawak Energy. We are determined to develop our safety and health management system, and at the same time build a proactive safety culture among employees and contractors."

“Safety is our top priority. This is welcome validation of our commitment to, and focus on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Excellence.”

Sarawak Energy was among 161 recipients who were commended for their efforts in improving their occupational safety and health processes through sound safety and health management systems after the organisations were independently evaluated by MSOSH.

Sarawak Energy recently launched its Life Saving Rules - a set of mandatory safety rules - in pursuit of zero work related fatalities and serious injuries.

The organisation also signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for the implementation of a Safety Passport Programme designed to promote work safety amongst its contractors. The programme specifically targets contractor staff to ensure they receive competency and authorisation certification.
