Double Circuit Tripping On 275KV Selangau-Kemena Causes Power Outage
Defence System Enables Quick Restoration
KUCHING, 19TH FEBRUARY 2017, SUNDAY: The power outage which occurred at 6.26pm was caused by a double circuit tripping of the 275kV Selangau-Kemena transmission line, affecting customers in some parts of the Central and Western Region of Sarawak.
Major areas affected were parts of Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Mukah and Sibu. Restoration works commenced immediately with supply restored progressively. Supply to some areas in Kuching was restored in under 7 minutes. By 7.52pm the system was almost fully restored.
“The defence system worked effectively to sustain the Kuching to Mukah island, thus enabling quick restoration,” said Mr. Lu Yew Hung, Sarawak Energy’s Chief Operating Officer.
“Sarawak Energy is investigating the cause of the double circuit tripping on the Selangau-Kemena line that led to the outage. We sincerely apologise to our affected customers for the inconvenience caused,” said Mr. Lu.
