Strong Winds Affects Power Supply To Medamit

Sarawak Energy technical team deployed to replace broken pole to restore supply

KUCHING, 26 JUNE 2016, TUESDAY: Strong winds on Monday damaged a high tension (HT) pole causing loss of supply to residents in Medamit town and its surrounding areas around midnight.

A technical team from SESCO, Sarawak Energy's operations arm, was immediately deployed to detect the cause of the breakdown and isolate the problem. The team discovered that one of the HT poles was broken due to the strong winds, and works to replace it immediately began at 2am.

Repair works completed at 3.15pm and supply was restored progressively.

The damage caused a loss of load of about 1.3MW, affecting households at Kampung Bakol, Bukit Impas, Palas, Menuang, Tanjung Riman, Bukit Sagan, Medamit and Ulu Medamit.

Lau Kim Swee, Sarawak Energy Senior Vice President for Distribution said, “Repair works was completed at 3.15pm and the team tried their best to speed restoration of supply to our affected customers. It took a little longer than usual to complete the repairs as the damage was extensive. The broken pole was also located in a swampy area and repair works was hampered by bad weather.

“Sarawak Energy would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank the affected customers for their kind patience and understanding.”
