NEW MINISTER JOINS FESTIVITIES

KUCHING, 18TH JUNE 2016, SATURDAY: Sarawak Energy staff and management came together for the annual Gawai Dayak celebration, organised by the company’s Sports Club for a fun-filled Bidayuh themed night that saw 300 staff and family members enjoy traditional dances and food. The event also featured games as well as the crowning of the Kumang and Keling Gawai.

This year, the event was graced by newly appointed Minister of Public Utilities, YB Datuk Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom who joined Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit, Executive Vice-President and SESCO Chief Executive Officer Lu Yew Hung, and other senior management of the company. Robin Tigai, Project Director from the Transmission Department hosted the evening as Tuai Gawai and delivered welcome speech.

In his speech, Datuk Rundi said he was happy to note the high level of corporate inclusiveness practiced at Sarawak Energy given its diverse workforce, with celebrations such as Gawai Dayak, and highlighted achievements in electricity supply delivered by Sarawak Energy together with the Ministry.

In his speech, Torstein said the culturally unique thanksgiving celebration was a wonderful way of celebrating the hard work put in over the course of the year.

Torstein said the company’s diverse multi-cultural workforce included around 35 per cent who were of Dayak origin and celebrated the festival.

“Since last year’s Gawai Celebration, many milestones have been achieved which includes the signing of a new power purchase agreement, gas sales agreement, began supplying electricity beyond our borders as well as building our international credentials. We have achieved this together as a team,” he said.

Torstein said these achievements would secure the future of Sarawak Energy as well as the next generation of Sarawakians.
