KUCHING, 17 SEPTEMBER 2016, SATURDAY: The Sarawak Energy Cup 2016 - Badminton Tournament which is offering more than RM20, 000 worth of cash prizes will start on Monday, 19 September 2016.  The week long tournament, an initiative of Sarawak Energy’s Sports Club, will be held at the Sentosa Sports Centre at Jalan Stakan.

Organised to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and provide a platform for badminton enthusiasts to participate in local tournaments, teams will compete in various categories.

There will be 5 Doubles Categories – Veteran Men’s Doubles (45 years and above), Men’s Doubles Open, Men’s Doubles (Invitation), Novice Men’s Doubles and Men’s Doubles Open.

Former national shuttlers Muhammad Hafiz Hashim and Mohd Zakri Latif are also expected to play along with former state players Adam Lau Yu Ming and Alfred Lau Yu Leong. 

There will be 13 teams competing in this tournament and the champions will take home RM8, 000 in cash, while first runner-up will receive RM4,000.  The semifinalists will each receive RM2, 000.

Badminton enthusiasts are welcome to the tournament as spectators. The games will start at 7pm from Monday (19th September 2016) to Friday (23rd September 2016). Semifinals will be at 3pm on Saturday (24th September 2016) and finals will be on Sunday (25th September 2016) 9 am.
