Indonesia’s Academia On Educational Visit To Sarawak Energy
KUCHING, 13th NOVEMBER 2015, FRIDAY: A group of academia in the field of higher electrical learning from neighbouring Indonesia was given an insight on Sarawak Energy’s transmission plans and hydropower development in the state.
The group, comprising 40 lecturers from the electrical engineering faculties of various higher learning institutions across Indonesia, visited Menara Sarawak Energy yesterday and were given a briefing on the utility’s transmission plans as well as its role as the key driver for the state’s development agenda, Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).
They represent the Forum Pendidikan Tinggi Elektro Indonesia (FORTEI) and were led by Dr Haji Muhammad Iqbal Arsyad. Accompanying FORTEI was Alexandri Legawa, Staff Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia.
In his short address, Muhammad Iqbal said “Fortei sees this sharing session between the group of academia and Sarawak Energy as beneficial for knowledge sharing. Given our background in research and academics, we hope to know more about the new interconnection between Sarawak and West Kalimantan as well as the state’s experience in hydropower development.”
Sarawak Energy was represented by Lo Tzu Hsiung, Transmission System Planning and Development Division Assistant General Manager, Tay Guan Heng, Hydropower Development Senior Engineer, Johnny Wong Kwei Ji, Power and Dam Manager, Azahari Aliman Protocol and Events Senior Manager and Abdul Baderi Sahmat, Policy and Government Relations Manager.
In the briefing, Sarawak Energy shared some information on its transmission development which covers its grid system, transmission assets, existing and future development which includes the 500kV Backbone Transmission project and the interconnection to deliver 230MW of renewable energy to West Kalimantan by 2016. Also covered were on Sarawak’s energy's generation masterplan, and its role as the catalyst to SCORE development agenda.
The delegates were also brought on a tour to view the electricity history in Sarawak at Sarawak Energy's museum and its development updates at the Galleria, Menara Sarawak Energy.
