Sarawak Energy Urges Its Customers To Join Them In Support Of Earth Hour
Kuching, Thursday 27, 2014 – Sarawak Energy is giving its full support to Earth Hour, a worldwide event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which will be held this coming Saturday, 29 March 2014 at 8.30pm. At this time and date, households and businesses are encouraged to turn off their lights for one hour.
Earth Hour has seen growing support in recent years, gaining momentum across the globe. In 2013, Earth Hour saw a phenomenal increase in support as the world rallied together for one hour in an inspiring display of what people can accomplish when they put their hearts together to minimise our impact on the environment.
According to Sarawak Energy's Chief of Corporate Services Puan Aisah Eden: "The objective of Sarawak Energy’s participation is to support this global initiative, showing the spirit of unity and camaraderie, and take action towards a sustainable future. In this drive, lights will be switched-off for one hour at our headquarters in Menara Sarawak Energy, Wisma SESCO and its regional offices in Kuching, Miri, and Sibu.”
“We have rolled out internal communication to educate our employees on Earth Hour and urging them to show support because the impact could only be felt if we do this together, not only at work but also at home. We also call upon our household customers and businesses to participate in this one hour drive to raise awareness and the need to give personal commitment to reduce impact on the planet’s climate change. Taking the first step is as easy as turning off the lights. By switching off the lights for Earth Hour, we are acknowledging and celebrating our commitment to do something more for the planet that goes way beyond the hour,” urged Aisah.
"This is the second time Sarawak Energy is participating in Earth Hour and we are extremely proud to see strong support from our offices across the State. This is a strong indicator of the increasing level of awareness towards a greener world. As a responsible corporate citizen, Sarawak Energy supports initiatives that call for a more sustainable environment.", added Haji Yusri Bin Safri, General Manager, Shared Services.
Earth Hour has successfully accomplished a worldwide participation, beginning with 2.2 million individuals participating in the first year in 2007. In 2013, hundreds of millions of people across seven continents and 152 countries pledged their commitment and the campaign experienced its biggest support to date.
