Redeems and Sarawak Energy’s Sports Event Attracts Close to 500 Participants
Bau, Sarawak, 31 March 2014: Close to 500 participants poured into Bau last Sunday for the Redeems Run and Bicycle Race, jointly organised by The Association of Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak Youth and Sports Carnival (Redeems) and Sarawak Energy. The objective of the carnival is to promote health and active lifestyle among the community.
Participants from across Kuching and other districts near Bau, took part in the event, which ran from 6:30 a.m. to 12noon.
The participants competed against each other in five different categories of bicycle race and run. The key winners were Mr. Haikal B. Wan Zainal (8km run, Junior Category), Ms. Nor Aisyah Ahmat (8km run, Women Category), Mr. Azka Nabil B. Aduka (20km bicycle race, Junior/Women mix Category), Mr. Saravanan Kumar (21km run, Open Category) and Mr. Laurel Lauridsen Adrian (45km Mountain Bike race, Open Category).
Sarawak Energy, who jointly organized the event, was represented by 60 runners and cyclists, mostly members of Sarawak Energy’s Sports Club.
YB Datuk Peter Nansian, President of Redeems and also the State Assistant Minister for Community Services, said: “I am extremely pleased with the turnout of the carnival. Looking at the success of this year, we are now aiming to make next year’s event bigger and better in order to attract more participants.”
Joanne Tan, (陈楚燕) Manager Social Investment at Sarawak Energy, said: “I am glad that all participants had fun at the carnival. Events as such are the social glue that brings the community together. Along with our commitment to promote community wellness, Sarawak Energy will definitely be looking forward to more collaboration such as this to promote youth development.”
