BAKUN COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT STEERING COMMITTEE

The Bakun Community Management Steering Committee (BCMSC) was established as a collaborative governance body, bringing together representatives from various segments of the community to guide and oversee community development initiatives. It operates based on clearly defined objectives and organisational procedures.

The BCMSC comprises individuals holding key positions within the community, representing a diverse range of interests. These include the Belaga District Officer (Chairman) and the Bakun Station Manager (Co-Chairman), supported by secretariats representing corporate interests, the Bakun Resettlement Community and the Downstream/Upstream Community. Members from local civil society organisations and community groups ensure a balanced representation of diverse perspectives.

The Terms of Reference for the BCMSC are outlined as follows:

  • Identify and prioritise community-driven projects and initiatives related to the operation of Bakun HEP.
  • Facilitate active participation and engagement from all relevant community representatives.
  • Manage and oversee the planning and implementation of related programmes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate to provide a platform for issue resolution.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the BCMSC is currently being developed and circulated for review. This MoU aims to establish a clear framework for collaboration, ensuring that the BCMSC operates effectively in achieving its objectives and addressing community needs.
